What You’ll Need
We’re talking 3 ingredients for this quick and easy treat! As always, you can find the full printable recipe with complete instructions in the recipe card at the end of this post. Let’s take a look at what you’ll need…
- strawberries: Look for large, unblemished, fresh strawberries for this recipe.
- orange candy melts: Use your favorite brand of candy melts (you can find them online or in various stores near the cake decorating supplies).
- coconut oil or shortening: I like to add one of these to the candy melts help thin out and make for easier dipping.
How To Make Carrot Strawberries
Simple to make and irresistibly cute, these fun treats are guaranteed to enchant your guests and brighten your Easter!
- Prepare your baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Melt the candy melts with coconut oil or shortening (if using) as per the package instructions.
- Dip each strawberry into the candy melts, tapping off any excess, and then place them on the baking sheet.
- Use the remaining candy melts to pipe horizontal lines on each strawberry for added detail – this step is optional but gives the strawberries some dimension.
- Allow the strawberries to set completely before serving.
Storage Information
These treats are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. I do not recommend freezing.
Variations To Try
- Different Colors: Use different colors of candy melts for a variety of “vegetable” treats.
- Decorative Toppings: Before the candy sets, sprinkle on some sprinkles or tiny candy pearls for added texture and sparkle.
Trish’s Tips
- Make sure to fully dry the strawberries before dipping or the candy coating will not adhere properly.
- If the candy melts are too thick, add a little more coconut oil or shortening until the desired consistency is reached.
- Let the strawberries set up completely before enjoying.
- If you do not have a piping bag use a ziploc bag with the corner cut off.
- This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled depending upon your needs.
Serving Suggestions
Arrange your carrot strawberries on a bed of crushed chocolate cookies or brownies to mimic soil, creating a charming garden scene. You can even add a few small Easter-themed decorations, like bunnies or chicks (Peeps would be fun!) to enhance the theme.
Chocolate carrot strawberries are fun toppers for “dirt” pudding cups or even a cake.
