Today I’m making a simple dessert that features my homemade brownies, whipped cream and straweberries.
Brownies are delicious, strawberries are delicious… put them together in a pretty little glass and you have an easy and fabulous dessert sure to please!
You can also create a large trifle using the same recipe. Just use a large glass bowl and layer away!
Easy, layered desserts are what summer is all about: no-fuss deliciousness. These sweet little shortcakes are perfect because you can prepare each element ahead of time and assemble when you’re ready to serve.
Or, better yet, let your guests assemble their own shortcakes!
Ingredients Needed
Let’s take a quick look at what you’ll need to make the brownie shortcake:
- unsweetened cocoa powder
- all-purpose flour
- baking powder
- salt
- unsalted butter
- granulated sugar
- eggs
- vanilla extract
- strawberries
Store bought brownies or pound cake can be substituted for the homemade brownies if you’re looking for a time saving shortcut!
For the Whipped Cream
- heavy cream
- powdered sugar
- vanilla extract
How To Make Brownie Strawberry Shortcake
Start by making the brownies
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees (180 C). Grease and flour and 8 x 8 inch glass baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, combine the cocoa, flour, salt, and baking powder; set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter. Once melted, remove from heat and whisk in the sugar until combined.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla.
- Whisk in the dry ingredients until combined and pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 30 – 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out with a few crumbs clinging to it. Allow brownies to cool completely before serving.
Prepare the whipped cream
- Whip cold heavy cream until it begins to thicken.
- While mixing, add powdered sugar and vanilla.
- Continue to beat until desired consistency is reached.
Dice Strawberries
- Rinse and trim strawberries. Dice.

Ingredients

- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter 1 stick
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Whipped Cream
- 1 cup cold heavy cream often labeled heavy whipping cream
- 1-2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Strawberries
- 1 pint fresh strawberries
