How To Make Christmas Tree Rice Krispie Treats
- Lightly spray round cake pans with non-stick cooking spray.
- Transfer rice cereal to a very large bowl and set aside.
- Microwave the marshmallows and butter for 3-4 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds or so, or until super puffy and the marshmallows are beginning to melt together.
- Stir until smooth and combined. Add the green food coloring and stir until no streaks remain.
- Pour the melted marshmallow mixture over rice krispies and stir with a spatula that has been sprayed with nonstick spray.
- Divide the mixture between the two pans and press into the pans.
- Allow the krispie treats to cool at room temperature or in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Cut the circles into 6 wedges. A large serrated knife works best.
- Decorate the trees with icing, melted chocolate, sprinkles and any cookie decorating candies you may have.
If you plan to add a stick for the trunk (as pictured), I suggest adding it before adding any of the decorations.
For smaller trees, use a 6 inch cake pan.
Storage Information
You can store these rice krispie treats at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

How To Make Christmas Tree Rice Krispie Treats
Christmas Tree Rice Krispie Treats
Ingredients
- 9 cups rice krispies cereal
- 9 cups mini marshmallows
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract or vanilla extract
- green food coloring
- assorted sprinkles melted chocolate or royal icing
Instructions
- Lightly spray (2) 8″ round cake pans with non-stick cooking spray.
- Transfer rice cereal to a very large bowl and set aside.
- In a separate large, microwave safe bowl, add the marshmallows and butter. Microwave the marshmallows and butter for 3-4 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds or so, or until super puffy and the marshmallows are beginning to melt together.
- Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave and stir until smooth and combined. Add the green food coloring and extract and stir until no streaks remain.
- Quickly pour the melted marshmallow mixture over rice krispies and carefully stir with a silicone spatula that has been sprayed with nonstick spray. Once the cereal has been completely incorporated, divide the mixture between the two prepared pans, and press into the pans until mostly level. You will want to press down enough that the mixture compacts slightly.
- Allow the krispie treats to cool at room temperature or in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. When firm, invert the pans over a cutting board to remove the rice krispies treats. You may need to loosen with a knife or spatula.
- Cut the circles into 6 wedges (as you would pizza) to form a triangle shape that will be used for the trees. A large serrated knife works best.
- Decorate the trees with icing, melted chocolate, sprinkles and any cookie decorating candies you may have. If you plan to add a stick for the trunk (as pictured), I suggest adding it before adding any of the decorations.

These are so cute! I love that they don’t require expertise in the cookie decorating area. I could totally make these with my toddler. She’d love them.
