These Mexican Fiesta Decorated Cookies would add a “sweet” and colorful touch to any Mexican themed party!
I was inspired to create this fun set after my recent Mexican Riviera Cruise with Princess Cruises.
During one of our shore days, in Mazalan, Mexico, I spent some time in a large open air market, filled with shops selling everything from fruits and vegetables to clothing, candy, pinatas, and colorful trinkets of all sorts!
I came across a table filled with brightly painted trinket boxes and instantly knew I needed to “cookie” them!
Yes, in this case “cookie” is a verb… meaning, to bring an idea to life using cookies and icing!

Now, let me back up just a bit and add a few notes to this post…
I am not Mexican and in no way claim to know much about true Mexican culture or art. In my entire life I’ve spent less than 2 weeks in Mexico.
These cookies are merely my very simplified and stylized interpretation of the colors and designs I came across during my most recent visit.
To make these Mexican Fiesta Decorated Cookies you’ll need…
My classic Sugar Cookie Recipe
A batch of Royal Icing
If you’re not familiar with decorating cookies with royal icing, I’d suggest starting with this Basic Decorating Post.
I also have a tutorial post that includes some Flower Decorated Cookies similar to the one’s in this post.
Here are a few more fun ideas that would work perfectly with this Mexican Fiesta theme…
Adorable Taco Cookies by Bake at 350
Gorgeous Mexican Fiesta Cookie Platter by The Cookie Artisan
Cute Cactus Cookies by The Bearfoot Baker
Fun Margarita & Lime Cookies by Glorious Treats (that’s me)
Happy decorating!

Hi, I´m mexican and I loved your blog. I admire your work because your treats are beautiful. I really liked this post and I think your cookies captured pretty well the mexican joy 🙂 (my favorite was the orange and pink cookie whit little dots) I´m not an expert baking cookies but I will try these ones n.n

You are the Icing Queen! Those are so smooth & yummy looking–and after seeing your ‘inspiration’ photos, you captured it in your own way, which is so cool. Those flowers are so cute and I love the cookies with the banners (am a banner nut–I make them out of paper for baby gifts with the new baby’s name on them). Thanks for sharing….now if we only had Smellivision / Tastivision!
