Cold Brew Coffee
- Combine coffee grounds and water in a large glass container (I use a large canning jar).
- Stir to combine making sure the coffee grounds are completely saturated with the water.
- Cover the jar and place in the refrigerator for about 12 hours.
- Strain the coffee by lining a fine mesh strainer with a cheesecloth and pouring the coffee through the strainer.
- Transfer to a clean jar or container.
Recipe Notes:
Cold brew can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Do you need your cold brew fix now without the 12-hour wait? You can take a little shortcut by picking up ready-to-drink cold brew from the store!
Storage Information
Cold Brew Coffee: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days. It can be kept in a large mason jar or any sealed pitcher.
Pumpkin Cream: Prepare the cream fresh if possible, but you can store any leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days. Keep it in a sealed container and stir or shake before use to recombine the ingredients.
Fully Assembled Drink: If already mixed, it’s best consumed immediately. The cold brew can last a while, but the cream tends to lose its texture after a few hours.
Variations to Try
- Replace brown sugar with maple syrup and add a pinch of nutmeg for a warm, cozy twist.
- Add a splash of vanilla extract to the pumpkin cream for a smooth, sweet flavor.
- Mix in a bit of cocoa powder or chocolate syrup into the cream for a pumpkin mocha vibe.
- Drizzle salted caramel into the cold brew or the cream for a rich, indulgent flavor contrast.
Can I make a dairy-free version?
Yes! You can substitute regular cream with non-dairy options like coconut cream, almond milk, or oat milk. Keep in mind that the texture and flavor may vary slightly.
Can I serve it hot instead of cold?
While typically served chilled, you can warm the cold brew and cream if you prefer a cozy, hot drink.
Why is my cream separating?
Separation can happen if the cream sits for too long or if it isn’t frothed properly. Stir well before serving, and make sure the cream is fresh to avoid separation.
How do I prevent the cream from sinking?
Froth the cream until it’s light and airy but still pourable. This way, it will float on top of the cold brew rather than sinking.
Trish’s Tips
- If you prepare the pumpkin cream ahead of time, make sure it’s well-chilled before adding it to your cold brew. It will float better and create a nice contrast with the cold coffee.
- Froth the cream just enough to make it airy, but not too thick. You want it to be pourable so it floats on top of the cold brew, creating that signature layered look.
- The sweetness of the cream is entirely up to you. Start with a little sweetener and adjust based on your preference. Maple syrup or honey can also be used!
- To get a super-smooth cold brew, use a fine mesh strainer or a coffee filter when straining the grounds. This will remove any grit or sediment.
- If you’re a regular coffee drinker, make a larger batch of cold brew and keep it in the fridge for up to a week. This way, you can easily whip up a pumpkin cream cold brew whenever a craving strikes!
